I think the entire concept of “Asian Privilege” is absolute bullshit, to be honest. Reason why I say this? This idea of a “hierarchy of privilege/oppression” within the parameters of PoC-ness is counterproductive and destructive. Yes, Asians make the most money in this country, second only to White Americans, but this is not because Asians wield some sort of magical, institutional power. It’s because many Asians, having a different history than other groups, have had to make extraordinary cultural sacrifices in order to reach such a level. ‘Cause if we focus on Asian successes from a class-privileged POV, we risk losing the sight of the experiences of undocumented Asians running throughout the land, and the violent, oppressive history Asians have with this country which HAS shaped modern-day attitudes towards them as a group (such as the “perpetual foreigner” amongst others), no matter how “well-off” they may be. Their success as a “Model Minority” is still being approved by White people therefore it is inherently coded in racist jive. The term “Model Minority” in and of itself is aggressively racist, but lots of people aren’t seeing what I’m seeing. White Supremacy exists to spread loss by dividing and conquering and throwing bones at differing groups of PoC for different reasons. I don’t trust the motive to make Asians seem like some “Super Successful Colored People” (colorism plays a large role in this, too)… PoC, no matter their successes, are STILL BEING MANIPULATED. it’s rank. If I’ve missed any pertinent points in this post, and there are any Asian bloggers out there who see this, feel free to correct me. I just had to get this off my chest.

Finally, in a remarkable bit of symmetry, our hero and heroine exchange 124 “grins” and 124 “frowns”… which, by the way, seems an awful lot of frowning for a woman who experiences “intense,” “body-shattering,” “delicious,” “violent,” “all-consuming,” “turbulent,” “agonizing” and “exhausting” orgasms on just about every page.
